Pure focus! If you weren’t already dialled in and going #withtheflow while surfing the beautiful Okisollo Wave, as you come off the back of it your attention will surely be placed on the mayhem that is found behind. So awesome paddling with and watching the #stohlquistproteam doing their thang!
@albicankayak taking the #cdkayaks Karla for spin at Okisolo. This new teammate caught us by surprise, he was raised on the waves off Quqdra and his experience shows. He is so capable, kind, humble and unassuming, we are honored that he has joined #stohlquistproteam #withtheflow
Here is @lukabors and I hoping in the final moments of Oki, we were part of a Whale watching tour! It is fun having people watch but it is also another layer of pressure, that day we had cameras rolling and some onlookers. You would think it would be hard to focus but as soon as you know your stern is hitting that wave, boom it is show time and you rely on muscle memory and instinct to guide you. This day was only 2 months ago but now it seems like two years. #stohlquistproteam #withtheflow @cdkayak #paddlingmixtape #quadraisland #lovethisplace #seakayaksurf
You can join @cloud9kayak Jarrod Gunn McQuillan and myself next time we go to the Shubie tidal bore check out this opportunity
To go surf in fast current you have to expect that you will be spending sometime underwater. You need to count on your roll and have confidence that you can recover. Often as the wave builds we have time to practice our rolls in the eddy this builds our confidence and gets us ready for the inevitabel. 📸 @kevrlight got this at the #stohlquistproteam trip, the kelp behind me resides in the eddy at Okisollo #withtheflow
@coastmountainexpeditions Albert Keller joined us on the most recent #stohlquistproteam trip as the newest member! First surfing Oki at age 14, this class act has only gotten more talented with time - it'd take a miracle to get him off the wave. An absolute blast to surf with, solid on the eddy watch, and the most positive dudes I've met in a long while. One #withtheflow and definitely the king of the foam pile! Welcome to the team Albi!
Looking back at the #stohlquistproteam trip in May I remember the times we had together just chillin and waiting for the wave to form. That is when we got to know each other and spent time sharing stories, analyzing the wave, watching it build as we build our relationships. It has occurred to me that the development of the team doesn’t come from the time on the wave but from the time we spent together. I am grateful to have this time to get the know each other and grow as team. It is that bond that being #withtheflow creates. 📸 @kevrlight
You have seen some pics of good old Chompy (real name: Okisollo) u can see why we call it that! This photo was right after I jumped into the Karla with @bensch___ ‘s seat riser (Chris what is the name of that booster seat you have?) I loved it it gave me a bit more reach made me higher in the kayak so edging was much easier. It did make the kayak feel more tippy but I got used to it after my first beat down by Chompy. Love being with the team and trying out new things in faster flows!!! @cdkayak
#withtheflow that was day 3 #stohlquistproteam 📸 @kevrlight
It’s interesting, in the past year I have found fear to be my biggest motivator. After being invited to the #stohlquistproteam I was astonished and nervous, it wasn’t something on my radar.
Then attending #withtheflow with @stohlquistcanada I was filled with excitement but mostly nervousness as I would be paddling with some of the most talented kayakers, the last thing I wanted was to be a weak link.
Turns out that being surrounded by kickass paddlers pushes you to succeed. It was fear that I paddled to conquer but it was more so the guys around me that really pushed me to fail until I succeeded.
Cheers to a great week of paddling & thanks for the motivation #stohlquistproteam 📸: @kevrlight

The line up and our “crowd” lol at Okisollo on the last day of the #stohlquistproteam trip. You can imagine what is going through these paddlers heads as they think about dropping into a wave that is well overhead and current running at 10 knots @ashleychevrier and @kim.morg.an thanks for all your support and help on the trip. We had a great time because of you guys! #withtheflow
Like life, some paddling days everything is clicking and you are on point, while other moments things aren’t working. On the second day of a recent trip out West I was challenging myself as the Okisollo Wave was at its biggest. Some of us were referring to it as “chomper” as the crest of the wave would fold over itself. The sound would echo through the area and was daunting to say the least. As I was dropping in, chomper emerged. I tried to line up and catch the narrow face, but got spit to the left and flipped over. After a few roll attempts and a big gulp of water, I had to do what I haven’t done in a while, pull my skirt. Now vulnerable swimming with my boat down the rapids. Big thanks to all round great guy and super sturdy boater @lukabors we got me sorted out. In the process the power of the water underneath me sucked my right boot off my foot. As we entered back into the eddy far downstream low and behold a black #stohlquistwaterware neoprene booty, size 12 was floating there - who would of thought! Later in the day @kevrlight asked what was going on in my head. I said I was just trying to deal with the situation at hand. I pause now and reflect and analyze how I reacted, what I did. These moments either crush us or make us stronger. I am not going to lie this shook my confidence for a bit. However, my awesome team mates were sure to bring up my spirits hooting and hollering later in the day after a few successful rolls while upside down in some challenging whirlpools. This experience has helped shape plans for my future development and what I need to work on. It also made me realize what an awesome group of individuals make up this #stohlquistproteam

Can you imagine dropping into a wave and having these guys on the wave in the spot you want to be? @kevrlight caught this photo as we were dropping into Okisollo. I have never been as nervous to drop into a wave as I was when I saw what you are seeing here as I dropped in. Once I got to them it was ok, they could definitely see me and it was like they wanted to share. They went behind me, below me, criss-crossed under me, it was exhilarating and breath taking. I felt like they were actually trying to use the one thing we had in common to connect. Sea lions are one of the few mammals that surf recreationally. We have seen them there before but never like we did with #stohlquistproteam. There will be more to come on this, stay tuned to #withtheflow
On the first day of the #stohlquistproteam trip we had a warm up paddle then it was shenanigans time, you can see @lee_a_phillips playing safety boat as we had @supglen try running across our hulls as we capsized then rolled up. Next we went to surf the Secret Wave and Surge Narrows. Getting back and getting out of your kayak is always the worst part, the excitement and nervousness for the day has dissipated and you have to rinse off and dry out your gear, borrrring!!! Unless u have 10 of the most fun dudes and dudette to share it with! #withtheflow
This photo gives you an idea of the scale of the Okisollo wave, @bensch___ is in there making it look easy. To his left there is a surgie gap that if you get in there your off into the mess behind you, to his right the wave diminishes to flat quickly. #thecanadianbensch is in the right spot shredding it #withtheflow ! #stohlquistproteam
Ben Doffe, #stohlquistproteam taking that last stroke it takes to get on Oki. Getting on these waves is all about timing, precision and placement, you can see here Ben is nailing it and @kevrlight caught the last stroke when the boat stops moving backwards, planes out and starts the rush of catching the tidal race. I want to be back #withtheflow
Paddling around at low tide with the team was a blast. I saw the biggest #seacucumbers I have ever seen. It is fascinating to sea what is just below surface and when the tide is low we get to see so much more of what is below us. Sea stars, sea anemones, different types of kelp, and so much more. It creates a connection with us and the ocean. #withtheflow #stohlquistproteam

Watching this guy catch a wave at high flow was a highlight of my #stohlquistproteam trip. @supglen is an inspiration, having the courage to jump into those flows an giver the way this guy does is impressive! The glassy wave he is on is one thing but check out the wash behind him! #withtheflow photo by: @kevrlight
A few weeks ago, I had an awesome opportunity to paddle on Quadra Island with the #StohlquistProTeam and our mission was to have fun in some sweet tidal currents. #withtheflow
Mission accomplished. ✔️
Off balance is how i would describe my main feeling while surfing. Humbled would be my secondary feeling.
This was a common view for the time we had at the wave. The energy and positive vibes at this spot never stops amazing me.You can feel the energy of it just by looking at this picture of Luke Boserio. Some awesome memories of a great group of people, loved being with this team. I can still hear the cheers and encouragement when a team mate nailed something for the first time, so excited for us to share with everyone. #withtheflow #stohlquistproteam photo: @kevrlight
