I started running when I moved to the east coast about 6 years ago. My oldest son was 6 months and it was the easiest way to get exercise by putting him in the stroller and running. I did some casual running, running 4-5 miles a couple times a week. I was lucky and even managed to run up to 35 weeks into my second pregnancy. After I had given birth to my second son some of my neighbors had talked me into running a half marathon. And then the next year I got talked into my first Olympic triathlon. And then after that I got talked into my first marathon and now I’m hooked. I basically got talked into everything 🤣🤣 Running is important to me for a couple reasons:
1. It’s the only time when it’s all about me. No one needs my attention/no one needs help.
2. I’m a much better parent and wife after getting a run in. I’m the type of person that needs running to relieve stress and anxiety.
3. It’s something I genuinely enjoy. I like the challenge. I like proving to myself I can do hard things. Right now my favorite distance is the marathon. Mainly because I don’t think I’ve reached my potential or had my best race possible. I have so much in me so I’m going to keep working at it.
Fave pre-race routine is collecting my favorite images in my head of my family and friends or different mantras that I’m going to try and call upon during the race. I also always try and remind myself of all my victories during training.
Happy #friyay, friends!! Hit snooze twice this morning😪😴, so no strength training today, but got my 10K done!! I am so looking forward to hopefully get some early nights this weekend and getting some good sleep and hopefully kicking this cold I've got. Happy racing to everyone running and tri-ING!
