Pingelap? Banaba?? Fangataufa??? Anyone?
No, me neither. These are just a few of the 50 remote islands that are covered in this book, islands that the author will never visit but are pretty interesting nonetheless.
For example, 10% of the population of Pingelap are colourblind due to inbreeding, and even the pigs are black and white. The residents of Banaba use wild almond wood and sharpened turtle shell to tattoo strict patterns onto their skin. And the first French hydrogen bomb was exploded on Fangataufa, wiping out trees, houses, everything.
I wont visit these islands either but I definitely enjoy reading about them.
