I’m about 6,000 miles into a 10,000 mile road trip here. The original plan didn’t include Southern California, but then weather happened. As occurs in March, I suppose.
I wanted to cross Washington State’s Snoqualmie Pass before making my way east, exploring Montana and North Dakota—my 50th state!—en route. But, snow.
So here I was, not exactly kitted out for 90F temperatures and day hikes. But whatever. I could think of worse ways to spend a blue sky afternoon. Fumbling with snow chains and scraping ice from the windshield, for example.
