Happy Monday Natural Beauties 💖
🎀This is Breast Cancer Awareness Month🎀
I remember since I was in the 5th grade, my mother always had a breast self-examination shower 🚿 card in the tub. One day I was curious seeing this shower card every time I washed up. I decided to read it, intrigued I decided to follow the steps. It started to become a routine I did every week. In the beginning stages of college, this breast self-examination routine saved my life. I found a lump on one of my breast. It hurt to the point it was extremely uncomfortable to lay down. Waited 2 weeks to see if it would disappear and it didn't. I told my mother and she said I should definitely go to the doctor. Went to see the doctor who confirmed feeling the lump as well. ..🎀
Afterwards, he suggested we do the fine needle aspiration procedure aka FNA, which is a diagnostic procedure used to investigate lumps or masses with a thin fine needle to collect the tissue from the mass/lump to examine under a microscope to see if its benign or cancerous. They do apply local anesthesia on the area to numb it before needling. Unfortunately, that didn't work for me. After, going 2 times in the breast with the needle I couldn't take the pain anymore. So my next step was having surgery to remove the lump. All was successful, as I was waiting nervously for a week for the results, the pain was slowly gone. However, you question life and what if the doctor tells me I have cancer what am I going to do. The worry that you go through, the sleepless nights, not feeling hungry because you're so scared. Something comes over you when you're faced with a life situation but I remember thinking 💭 if it is cancerous, at least I detected this lump early and we all know early detection is the best survival rate. I returned to the doctor's 👨⚕️ office and he told me it was benign.
I have so much respect for people who have cancer and are cancer survivors. It takes a lot of strength and courage to go through that kind of process. ..
