For parents who spend a lot of energy controlling your children’s “screen-time”, I would love to ask, what’s your REAL fear?
What is it you’re really afraid of? Underneath.
Then ask why. And why again.
I feel it’s really worth exploring, because where I stand, there is so much fear out there around this subject, it really makes me sad at the real connection & understanding that is getting lost. I feel we are just finding the next thing to worry about as we buy into the scaremongering and worry and compare with others.
Rather than controlling our children’s time, why not teach them to connect into, & follow their own guidance of when they’ve had enough of doing something?
Just like when we know that we have.
As a mum who has unschooled screen time and overcome & released my own worries about it, I am seeing more issues arise from the control and disconnect, rather than the screen itself!
And let’s be honest, if our children were sitting down reading books for a lot of their free time, or playing board games, would we be as controlling?
There is always going to be something to worry about, and now it’s the time of screens, yet it’s not screens that are the issue.
I have seen many children who have not been allowed their tv or tablets freely & my observations have been the same.
They are glued.
Like a child who was never allowed any sweets and so binged on them in secret until he felt sick.
I see proud parents with glorified posts of no screen time - But I’d love to ask, is that REALLY what the child would LOVE to be doing?!
These days Bear isn’t into art at all.
Nor am I, & I would hate to be made to sit at a table and do art when I would rather be doing something else I love!
Control❌ Trust. Connection.✅
Our children have their own intuition but it seems that very few are guided to actually use it!
I recently wrote a brief article @learningthroughlivingjournal about my journey with screens & gaming, & what I can say is now the WORRY has gone, the CONTROL has gone. And I see the learning.
The TRUST has come, & with most of our time at home spend on our screens, I have an amazing CONNECTION with my boys!
Relax!! Connect!! See the learning 😁
