T-7 days until Candy Coma hits...aka Halloween 🎃 🍬
I shared this with my virtual gym gals this morning and our excitement and nerves are building!! Something tells me you might be interested too and NEED this just as much as I do.
As I will happily be sneaking a few of my favorite candies from my kids’ candy loot after their bedtimes on Halloween ( #noshame ), I have a game plan in place. I’m going to do a post-halloween 3 DAY SUGAR DETOX. 😬 And here’s what I’m thinking — what if we all jumped in a big, ginormous group and did this detox TOGETHER?!
What if you hit the reset button with me and were ready to go into the holiday season with the right mindset (and maybe even a few lbs lighter...)?!

TIP OF THE DAY: Lean into delaying gratification.
Delayed gratification, or deferred gratification, describes the process that a person undergoes when the person resists the temptation of an immediate reward in preference for a later reward.
Why is this so hard to do this? We often make our life choices according to how we can avoid pain in the moment and, in doing so, we fail to see greater benefit delayed gratification can bring. This often happens on a subconscious level or out of habit. Your brain knows the thing that is presented for your consumption will give you pleasure immediately, even though the consequence of consuming it/doing it could lead to emotional distress in the near future. This can be illustrated again and again if you look back at your track record and the chances are you will still go for the pleasure now. Studies show that delayed gratification is one of the most effective personal traits of successful people. People who learn how to manage their need to be satisfied in the moment thrive more in their careers, relationships, health, and finances more than people who give in to it. Being able to delay satisfaction isn’t the easiest skill to acquire. It involves feeling dissatisfied, or saying no, which is why it seems impossible for people who haven’t learned to control their impulses. - Ilene S. Cohen, Ph.D., is a psychotherapist. The funny (not funny) thing is you know this. Chances are at some point in your life you had to buckle down and grind out a path to a goal and had to delay many pleasurable things you wanted to do in the moment. This skill or energy if you will is what you need to put into anything you desire or the innate draw of the pleasure principal will win. We all have those days. First, figure out why. Lack of sleep? Poor nutrition the day before? Dehydrated?
Second, get through it! Sometimes you literally have to cheer yourself on. Out loud or in your head, whatever works, just do it.
Third, be careful with caffeine and watch your cravings. Caffeine will make you crash harder. A little is ok but water throughout the day is what will really help. Don't give in to cravings for sugar and carbs, your body wants energy. Take a power nap, drink water, go for a walk, anything but a candy bar!
I eat clean because it makes me feel good. Like actually good = well and healthy. Sometimes it takes getting better to see just how unhealthy you’ve become. American society is not made for healthy living. There is so much sugar, preservatives and chemicals in almost everything around us. It is sad, so sad. Today starts my day one of a detox after a weekend of cookies, candy, and processed foods. I can FEEL the negative impact that stuff has on my body. I can SEE the negative impact it has on my children’s behavior. Why do they make something that is so bad for us taste good? And yet it takes me experiencing the downfall to realized I was on a pretty great track to begin with. I came home, drank my shake and immediately felt better. Fueling my body with superfoods to work at its best and today I work on getting that sugar out of my body.

Food that does take will power to stick with because it’s not always easy choosing healthy over convenient. But it is oh so worth it! 💯

How do you say no to free doughnuts? Well it's a constant battle if like me you're addicted to sugar. Today was an admins last day at my day job. So someone brought doughnuts for everybody. NOT COOL. Is it ok to bring in a bag of cocaine to the office for the team? Why is it ok to bring in 2 boxes of sugary deep fried pastries? The problem is the white powdery drug sugar is accepted by society even though it's responsible for more deaths, chronic illness and depression than coke will ever be and its more addictive. To develop the ability to say no takes a while and an arsenal of tricks to win the battle. A couple of tricks to start you off. Educate yourself to what Sugar does to your body. Remember if you're trying to lose weight how you felt this morning getting dressed or the last time you wore shorts or went to the beach. Remember the last time you indulged how you felt after. Tell everybody that you don't eat that shit. SAY NO TO SUGAR! If you can change one thing in your diet today, this will be your best choice. Sugar will lie to you & have you longing for it. Just say NO! Don’t give in! You are stronger than you know. Giving in will only leave you with a headache, depression, skin issues, weight gain, & diabetes.
