Ok I know the first veg that springs to mind in October is a pumpkin, but we aren't going to go there just yet! ⠀
Our ingredient of the week is still orange and round, but grows on a tree rather than from the ground and is much more juicier and definitely sweeter - and probably the first ever juice you ever had! That's right, our ingredient this week is the humble Orange!⠀
I could start talking about nutrients and phytochemicals but at the end of the day all you really need to know is what they do for you!⠀
🍊 They have anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidant effects too!⠀
🍊 They have no saturated fats or cholesterol, but are rich in dietary fibre⠀
🍊 They are a rich source of citric acid and citrates and may also help prevent kidney stone formation.⠀
🍊 They are low in calories⠀
🍊 Eating higher amounts of a compound found in citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruit may lower ischemic stroke risk for women⠀
🍊 Type 1 diabetics who consume high-fibre diets have lower blood glucose levels and type 2 diabetics may have improved blood sugar, lipids and insulin levels⠀
🍊 Primarily made up of carbs and water⠀
🍊 They rank low on the glycemic index, so they should not cause large spikes in blood sugar levels.⠀
Maybe the saying should be 'An orange a day keeps the doctor away'! ⠀
Whats your favourite way to eat an orange??⠀
With the weather getting very autumnal I figured it was time to turn the temperature up a bit! ⠀
And what better than adding some GREEN CHILLI to spice things up a bit! ⠀
These do more than add some heat though:⠀
🌶️ They have ZERO CALORIES!!! In fact, they speed up one’s metabolism as much as 50% for up to three hours after eating.⠀
🌶️ They offer protection against cancer.⠀
🌶️ They exert a number of beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system.⠀
🌶️ They are beneficial in combating the common cold or sinus infections.⠀
🌶️ Loaded with Vitamin C and beta-carotene, green chillies are great for healthy eyes, skin and immune system - although they lose their vitamin C when exposed to heat so it's a good job I add them to Spice Bombs!⠀
🌶️ When eaten, green chillies release endorphins that boosts the mood, and reduces pain.⠀
🌶️ They help balance blood sugar levels - perfect for diabetics!⠀
🌶️ They are a natural source of iron.⠀
🌶️ Green chillies have a lot of antibacterial properties and can help treat skin infections.⠀
🌶️ Green chillies are rich in Vitamin K that help decrease your risk of osteoporosis and of bleeding dangerously when you are cut out or injured.⠀
I know I say this every week but it amazes me just how much goodness there is in nature! we just need to teach ourselves that not everything needs a prescription! ⠀
It's another busy day in the Juice Kitchen, and after a weekend full of my daughters 21st birthday celebrations I needed a kickstart this morning!
After a weekend of over-indulgence my body was desperate for some goodness. Fresh fruits and veggies are chock full of vitamins, minerals and enzymes, that can kick your sluggish system back into gear. My body needed a refill! It needed fluids, and nutrients like fructose, vitamins, amino acids, and minerals that can kick those toxic chemicals in the butt.
Want to know the best ingredients for helping shift that pounding head and nauseated feeling in your belly, when the light in the room is the light of a billion suns, and you’re just not prepared to take on the day? Then look no further! I'll even tell you what of my juices to have on standby for the morning after!
Beets help along the detoxification process with an antioxidant called betalains which repair and regenerate liver cells. Since the liver is the detox-center of the body, it can definitely use a boost after a toxic night!
Ginger will calm an angry gut. It is a well-known remedy for nausea due to motion-sickness, pregnancy, and other types of upset stomach.
Spinach, kale, collard greens – they’re all rich in folic acid, sulfur, and vitamin C – which can help your body heal and get past the hangover symptoms fast.
While you let loose, your liver was hard at work flushing out those toxins from the alcohol. If you’re hungover, your liver is tired. Lemon contains an important antioxidant d-limonene (found in the peel) which will give your liver a helping hand and move the detoxification process along.
What of my juices would be the most beneficial? ANY OF THEM!!!! Just pick your favourite (or two depending on how bad the hangover is!) Don't forgot to add a shot to - ginger or beetroot of course!
Don’t mind me.... I’ll just sit here and sip my @squeezedonline juice while the kid eats broccoli and “Keto Slow Cooker Pizza” (93% lean ground beef, ground pork, layered with spinach, pepperoni and mozzarella cheese). Oh and never mind that he doesn’t hold his fork correctly, i promise I’ve taught him how to use his eating 🍴 #boymomproblems
Happy weekend 💫🎉
I’m taking things like SUPER easy after seriously pushing myself too hard this week 🙈
There’s a balance between knowing when you’re making excuses and procrastinating, to when your body is crying out to you to SLOW DOWN 🧘🏻♀️
Other than headed to the laundrette later I don’t plan on leaving the house this weekend. I’ve even had my groceries delivered so I don’t have to carry them all back from the shop 🐨 I plan on stretching 🧘🏻♀️ Reading 📖 sitting in the garden ☀️ and drinking fresh juice 🍹 and sleeping 💤
Inspired by @highcarbhannah I’ve started juicing a head of celery every morning and man - it’s good! 💫
👉🏻 also got a carrot and pineapple juice for breakfast 😍
Juice cleanse update: #keepingitreal on Day 1 I felt faint and exhausted BEFORE starting but pushed myself. No no. If your body is telling you clear as day to relax - you relax. So instead I cooked myself some delicious coconut curry with beans and rice and ate some raw brownies and caramel slices for dinner (despite wanting to order Chinese takeaway 😇). This doesn’t mean I’ve “failed” despite my initial thought of “oh well I’ve messed it all up”. No no I can still drink juice alongside healthy cooked plant foods and reap benefits, if it’s taking me longer to ease into my full juice cleanse then - so be it! A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step 😜
Today I feel MUCH better so I’m going to juice unless I feel really crappy. For those wondering I’m really not juicing for weight loss, primarily, although a welcome side effect - I’m juicing because I feel totally drained, nutrient deficient and out of sorts 😢 but feeling better already 👌🏻 #allhailplants
Rise and Shine! My #juicecleanseday2 story 👇🏼
The next day I woke up very refreshed with no hunger whatsoever. I finally made it out of the house to teach my classes. Changing up the order of 4 juices made the experience feel brand new. I felt like I could go on without having a lunch but decided to stick to the plan and enjoyed the best chicken in RI - @winnerwinnernpt ✨ 2 piece with “Breath of Fire” shot replenished my energy for the day and I was killing it! The night time, however was slightly rough. When I got home I felt unease in my gut as if there were cramps in the colon and around liver. I went to sleep but promptly was awaken by pain. Something inside me told me that I needed food. I ate a piece of toast and some tangerines (my comfort food) and was able to fall back asleep. If it wasn’t for the night incident, I would say that Day 2 was way easier then the first one and the body was feeling light. Ahead was the last day of #detox 🥤
I feel like parts of my brain/face are being pulled off. My rash is still there and my face is breaking out. My liver hurts a tad and I am HUNGRY. However, I'm staying positive and looking forward to the clarity to come. Day 2 is complete. Whew! #juicecleanseday2#fasting#detox#springcleaning
