Day 22! Back to the Silent Film Era with a Lon Chaney classic. He's famously known as The Man of 1000 Faces since he was able physically trasform his appearance with masterful makeup artistry for his on screen performances. Universal's 1925 Phantom of the Opera is definitely his most well-known work. That disfigured face is so famous, it kind of overshadows my favorite scene. This is when the Phantom interupts the masquerade dressed at the Red Death. That grin on his mask makes his presence menacing while his gestures make it elegant. My favorite version of this scene are the ones that add a bright red filter to the film only for that segment while everything else remains colorless. It makes his performance visually impactful. #thephantomoftheopera#reddeath#lonchaney#Prismacolor#ink#inktober
Life will bring you to your knees.
Hips shatter as you try to stand,
Cracked hands outstretched, fingers
Praying the ribbon used to sew you
Back together, never breaks,
Watching as it frays
Burgundy painted lips barely whisper "remember me"
Before the feeling vanishes,
Into the iris of their eyes, ••
••• ( I had always wanted to color something beautiful ) ••
•• Life will bring you to your feet.
Torso elongated, [you were never so small]
Knocked down to crawl
••• ••• I have crossed mountains on my hands and knees alone
••• ••• And I do not know remember the fall.
••• ••• Life will bring you to your soul.
Deep beneath the breadth of a cavernous
Cresting nightmare, you will tremble.
And when you do not wake,
There will be a calamitous rupture
Where mantle meets dirt •
( it will demand you inhale ) •
••• Life will become it.
Dripping canines, slathered in honey
From the comb, a timid moment
In which you will wonder. •
••• If death could ever compare. 🖤
