Throwback Tuesday, to that time about 7 years ago, when I did a whole series on the public restrooms of Oahu...
#lanai, lanai, lanai, (2) iconic architectural veils.
In the endless search for open air apartments in Honolulu, we came upon this time capsule. From the vintage yellow kitchen cabinets with the built in pink dish washer, to the redwood t&g walls with open transoms for ventilation, to the retro wallpaper, and to my favorite - the expanded metal sun shades on the lanai. One of the best layouts I’ve seen for a unit like this.
Atkinson Towers, Lemmon, Freeth, Haines and Jones, 1959

Yesterday's Talk Story session with Richard Lowe! Back in May, the urban and land-use planner, as well as realtor, talked about his work on the Civic Center Plan with John Carl Warnecke in the 1960s. Last night he returned to talk about the plan developed by Warnecke's firm for the development of the Kewalo land owned by the Victoria Ward Estate, and related it to the work now being undertaken by Howard Hughes Corp. What a treat!
