Grandma’s Birthday Cake: I lost my baking mojo when I was pregnant. It was the strangest thing! Whether I followed the recipes or if I substituted this for that; each time blah didn’t taste like I hoped, flat, crumbled, or the worst stuck to the pan. What to do?? ✨Idea! ✨I’ll teach Logan to bake Grandma’s birthday cake! At the time Logan was just shy of 2 1/2 years old. ✨ I knew he could do anything! I explained the experiment to little Logan. He was thrilled, jumping up and down singing ”me make happy birthday cake, me make happy birthday cake”
Experiment: ✨Logan will make the cake
✨Each put in with ingredient with love
✨Mommy will read the recipe ✨Mommy will help with the oven. ✨
Ok, up onto the little foot stool he went with his little apron on. Ready! ✨
I didn’t touch any of the ingredients or the bowls, spatulas,etc. ( I did plug in the mixer and put the cake in the oven) We used the birthday cake recipe from Nepenthe in Big sur. It was beautiful, delicious and filled with love!! 👏👏👏
Logan has been in charge or Grandma’s birthday cakes for the last 9 years. Logan is a maker. He’s a creator. His talents comes out making cakes, cupcakes and other delicious treats among other fabulous creations! He’s also so fortunate to have @jjohansen77
who believed in him too and taught him fractions while baking when he was 8👏✨✨✨ ✨
Yesterday was Grandma Karen’s birthday and Logan made a very complicated recipe. There were many steps, stumbles, and obstacles. In the end he walked out of the kitchen candles lit, smile on his face and singing with his whole proud heart. ✨His gifts come in many forms. I am truly proud and grateful for this tradition of baking with love. .
•BE FOOD SMART•
Did you know here in Australia one out of five shopping bags end up in the bin which is around $78 a week or $4000 a year on average for households.
The main reason we are wasting food is busy lifestyles, time , poor storage and forgetting to get to food in time.
In my book I have listed tips and tricks to store food correctly as well simple recipes to inspire the cook in you.
As part of the EPA project to reduce landfill (with newaste ) @wipe.out.waste I have been assisting families with a food smart program to record how much waste over a week for the average household with a followup audit to see if you made any changes.
So come along to one of our workshops with @lovefoodhatewastensw and follow this campaign ;
