I changed both my instagram and twitter handles to @birdsandbri ! it’s like birds and bees except it’s me, get it? anyways, to celebrate the change, here are some pics of some birds from this week! all birds caught and banded with proper permits. pictured: MYWA (myrtle warbler)male, BTBW (black-throated blue warbler) female, RBWO (red-bellied woodpecker) male, and SWSP (swamp sparrow).
Going Golden and Going Bald - two beautiful sub-adult eagles atop the Big Belts in Montana. In the past two days 296 Golden Eagles and 16 Bald Eagles passed through my watch on their journey south!
The perils of flight (spoiler alert: happy ending!). A loud BAM on the glass sliding door led me to the terrace where this migratory red breasted nuthatch lay upside down, wings spread, feet curled, beak gasping. I was afraid I would have to kill it. And wondered how. But after 5 minutes in my hand it looked up at me with a piercingly alert black eye and then flew to the railing, where it clung. Then it flew like a strong bird all the way to the largest catalpa tree in the hood. I adore all these little birds, now passing through this giant city on their way south. I would like all windows to be cushioned and all lights turned off for the duration #migration
☀️A White-throated sparrow sun snoozing with his eyes closed☀️White-throated sparrows breed up in Canada and are seen on the East Coast during fall/winter migration—their little yellow head stripes and white throat make them distinct.💛Look for them in low bushes or undergrowth—I caught this guy snoozing in some bushes by a lake in #CentralPark.#sparrow#sparrows
