Did you know that #lovelandcolorado has the West 4th St #historic District? Just west of @dtown_loveland , this residential district is comprised of a relatively homogeneous group of 1-story brick #bungalow homes constructed in the 20’s by William W Green.
Reflecting the prosperity of our growing community, a number of these #historichomes were occupied by some of Loveland’s distinguished citizens, including beloved former high school coach & schools superintendent Howard E. “Bill” Reed. Other well-known residents were Charles Angove, station agent @ Loveland’s #unionpacific who was also superintendent @ Loveland’s #greatwesternsugar plant; Elmer Ivers served as mayor of Loveland in 1931 & 1956, as well as Chief Electrician of the Great Western Sugar refinery & then the Postmaster of Loveland who was instrumental in instituting the world-renowned #lovelandvalentines postmarking program.
These historic homes are most notable for their varied #architecturalelements & for their similarities - most are 1-story bungalows w/ buff-colored brick facades. They generally represent 3 #architecturalstyles including #colonialrevival , #tudorrevival , & #craftsman . If you look closely, you’ll notice distinct features of each style, but often you’ll find playful blending of the styles.
1️⃣Colonial/Neoclassical Revival: #symmetric facade, gable roof forms, pedimented porch w/ classical columns, window shutters, accentuated front door w/ sidelights, classical detailing, dormers, dentil moulding
2️⃣Tudor Revival: mimicking medieval cottages, #asymmetrical forms, steep gabled roofs, tall slender & decorative chimneys, former windows, tall narrow windows, small window panes, low-arched doors
3️⃣Craftsman: emphasis on #skilledtrades , simple #customdetailing , low-to-medium sloped roofline extends to cover porch, exposed & shaped rafter tails, tapered columns w/ brick or stone piers, roof dormers

To say my element has begun is an understatement. Really dialing it down for the plumber, electrician, and budget. I sent off our list of plumbing items. It goes sink and faucet it coincides with (except the last is reverse) I found a cheaper faucet and sink for the kitchen. 1/2 bath has a bronze faucet 8” spread faucet on a wall mounted sink (we turned what should be a fireplace into a half bath) Upstairs baths have matching sinks and faucets. I picked our exterior lights. Master bath. And both shower fixtures. Can you tell I have a real problem with things that are round?!😹 I decided I would buy the lighting and tiles out of my pocket. I’m picking worlds most affordable items to avoid lumping it into our loan. Ordering exterior lights tonight. #alicemadeline#thealicemadeline#circahouse#colonialrevival#themwoods#catshack#normasplace#newenglandbuilt#custombuild#colonial
So Benny the Bowl (yup, he has a name), looked a little lost since he’s new and didn’t have an assigned job in the household yet. That has been fixed! Benny is now “Official Holder of the Sacrificial Pumpkin”, keeping contained the pumpkin with which I will make my 18th century French pumpkin soup recipe I just found. I feel this is a good place for Benny to start: slightly above entry-level, giving as he has 100 yrs experience holding things in a contained manner, important enough to demonstrate his seniority over the Rubbermaids, and yet low-key enough to give him the opportunity to settle into his new surroundings and learn the ropes. Welcome, Benny! (And for those of you prepared to dial emergency services on my behalf, I’m fine. No really. Nothing to worry about here. Put down the phone. No seriously, put the phone down, I’m perfectly healthy!!!!!!). #pumpkins#vintage#pewter#colonialrevival#fall#autumn#inamedmybowlbenny

My online vintage find for $8.99!! It’s colonial revival, so unfortunately not 18th century, but it is 100 yr old pewter, so it’s got character and looks 18th c. I love it and you can’t beat that price. #vintage#colonialrevival#antiques#colonialstyle

The more minutes I don’t order our kitchen the more I change the type of wood stain on the perimeter cabinets 😈 I think this is my final color scheme (colors only ignore the door styles) top will be floating shelves. Middle left is perimeter cabinets. Middle right is island. Bottom is hopeful flooring color. Countertops and hardware are also only to resemble colors. I obviously had to compare to our dining room furniture because I’m mentally ill. As it turns out I’m realizing everything we own is wood or gold. Time to pray to the floor gods for something within budget that’s light with texture. On an unrelated note ask me how many tile samples I ordered... #thealicemadeline#alicemadeline#circahouse#themwoods#colonialrevival#catshack#normasplace
The amount of decisions you have to make building a house. We spent the last 48 hours revolving our lives around doors and “the trims” (Dan dies whenever I say that) We met the doors and trims guy and decided which way all of our doors would swing. Our exterior front doors will be black. Door number one is our front door (it will have a glass transom over it) The second door is our front mudroom door (buttt I think I’m already changing my mind on that). The third is the back mudroom door (I want this door solely for the cats viewing pleasure and to match our sliders) Our baseboard. Door and window trim. The sixth is interior doors. I know, I know, the interior doors and trims isn’t what you would expect for a colonial dupe. But I like my things plain. Im going black knobs and hardware on the doors. #alicemadeline#thealicemadeline#circahouse#themwoods#catshack#normasplace#colonialrevival
