This will be a journey I will never forget, this car was by far the hardest thing I've worked on, I had to test things I didn't fully understand,basically putting a Lego back together with no instructions. There isn't a lot of knowledge about these cars, everyone who knows something hasn't worked on them since the 90's. As hard as this thing was to get running and as much as it challenged me and made me angry, nothing will ever beat that first start feeling. I was and still am so proud that I made it run and drive again. Getting rid of it was a hard decision, but I had to do it. With how rare these cars are nowadays, and how hard it was to make run again (let alone make run right) was crazy, just wish I could've kept it, certainly won't be the last old Audi 5 cylinder I own. I miss this thing a lot sometimes, but my pride is still overwhelming, what an amazing piece of German luxury engineering. Well, the day has come to make a decision on what exactly is going to happen. A lot of thought/turmoil right now. But if I'm going to move forward I can't be held back by the things that weigh me down.
First, let's not forget next year will mark six years of Type 44 madness. The count stands at 12 cars which have each had their own amount of time and energy spent on them. Not to say that I'm burnt out, but things haven't exactly slowed down.
Second, the fact that you still come here and watch the crazy unfold amazes me. Simply, a huge thank you for all the support so far.
So the first order of business is to clean house of all the junk. Three current parts cars are on the way out - that's the Bamboo and Tornado sedans and Lago Avant. This weekend I will pull the parts I want and then it's off to the Badlands.
The next step is to consolidate the rest of the collection. Edelweiss obviously stays. Greis took two years to bring back from the dead and is also sticking around.
That leaves Greta and Zyg. Greta is the elusive 100E but has been in various project stages since February - at this point I'm tired of dealing with her. She's the prettiest but is starting to mechanically degrade, so she will make the ultimate sacrifice and become our new parts car. Pieces from her are going to transfer over to Edelweiss and Greis so that they can be improved upon.
I am going to use Zyg for the winter as a daily driver and then in the spring he's going up for sale.
So now that we have a plan to clear house, what am I going to bring home? Well, obviously I'm still doing my daily Audi searches and if something comes up that fits the bill that will take top priority. But things like 928s or DeLoreans always tempt me.
