"IF YOU RUN INTO A WALL, DON'T TURN AROUND AND GIVE UP.
FIGURE OUT HOW TO CLIMB IT, GO THROUGH IT, OR AROUND IT" -.Michael Jordan
Fell short on this recent race. So I took this picture by the PR bell as a reminder of the hunger to work harder.
Race recap- Enjoy the read!
👉Miles 1 -8: I felt really great. I was running faster paces than my training paces through miles 1 - 4. In miles 5-8 I was running training tempos.
👉Mile 9- I took out my phone to replay my music list and all of sudden my playlist stopped. I fumbled, shaking my phone, hitting the buttons...all while trying to run. But I lost focus & slowed significantly for almost that entire mile trying to get my music back on. My mind kept telling me there was no way i would survive running the last 5 miles without music. Music finally came back on after a few phone resets and fumbly finger moments.
👉Mile 10- picked up the pace. but I was tired.
👉Mile 11- I was tired. My legs felt heavy. I kept pondering if I should take another energy gel. but I made the decision to just run through my natural gas because I felt I had already taken too much gels at that point (I shouldve taken it tho)
👉Mile 12- I thought the 1:55.pacer was behind me; but I saw the 2:00 pacer run next to me. I was confused. Then I tell myself that I must've not seen the 1:55 pacer go by me at mile 9 amidst my chaos with my music shenanigans. I tried to keep up with 2:00 pacer, but I was slowly losing ground.
👉Mile .1 ( the very end)- I could see the finish line. I had like 20 seconds to gun the 1. mile just under 2:00. In my training stints, I knew that I had practiced those short sprints many times...but my legs felt like steel. I kept mentally pushing through but my legs were moving like slow motion. I kept looking at my Garmin. I honestly thought I crossed the timer at 1:59:58.
So in a nutshell, when I saw my chip time as 2:00:05, I was heartbroken over those 6 seconds. i wallowed in this "shortage" for a few moments...but now I'm over it.
My next training cycle begins in less than a week. I'm heading for Tokyo marathon in T- 20ish weeks. I'm so hungry and ready to work.
