I was a very fortunate kid growing up in the fact that I was exposed to sailing very early. My grandfather had a boat and we would sail over to Catalina almost every weekend! At the time I hated it (I got sea-sick so I had to take Dramamine and pass out for the sail), but I got over that THANK GOODNESS! And sailing is now in my blood. When I first moved back down to Cali that was my # 1 goal, to get close to my dad and go sailing. So we did just that! It was AWESOME!!! I was his best skipper, and I learned SO much! ⛵️
We almost died one time in an unexpected storm where 4 people actually DID die and 3 sailboats sunk!!.....Another story for another time, I’m traumatized thinking about it still. I said I’d never go again but then I got over that and we continued our shared love of sailing together. ⚓️
I’ve Been thinkin’ bout my JoPappa a lot lately and how much I miss our sailing adventures! While I’m SO happy I moved back to the PNW, I sure do miss those spontaneous trips to Catalina! We made such a great team! We still do, I’m just in a different state now so it’s a bit more effort to make these trips happen. I feel so bad bc I know he doesn’t take the boat out unless I’m there! Perhaps this is all coming up for me bc it’s time to go back down for a visit...
If you ever have an opportunity to experience the sailing life (not just boat life, SAILBOAT life) go for it! If you have an opportunity to introduce your kids to it, Go for that too! It’s an amazing experience that not enough people are fortunate enough to enjoy! I’m so Grateful. Can’t wait for more!!
