The garlic is in the ground. I planted a few dozen of our homegrown German Red, am trying Late Italian (softneck) for the second year, and about 60 cloves of the highly regarded Music variety. I’m thinking that’s enough. This irregular-shaped triangle bed was initially one of our strawberry beds, but last summer we enlarged it, relocated our strawberries over into an underutilized corner of the orchard and simultaneously expanded our veggie beds where we planted our potatoes this year. It’s a tricky bed to plant and the potato beetles were difficult to pluck, so I’m excited to have a low maintenance crop in this bed for the first part of next year. I sure love the angles these beds (there are two) add to the feel of the space, and hope the garlic does well here. Our garlic was grown outside the deer fence last year in a new veggie bed; the hardneck did pretty well, but the softneck formed tiny heads. One thing going for their new location is their proximity to our irrigation which will help us remember to give it a good drink during dry spells, because we largely ignored our garlic this spring and I know they’d appreciate a little more love than that. #seedtofork #fallgarden #inmygarden #mygarden #garlic #homegrown #growyourown #aerialphotography #djispark #gardenphotography #minnesota #minnesotagarden
