And I call this series: the Iconic Fig Trees of Angkor.
These temples moved me far more than the actual temple of Angkor Wat, because there is something so grounding yet magical about seeing nature reclaim what we once created. It feels much more harmonious, seeing something that was built by man but looks as much one with nature as a tree does. These ruins seem far less removed from the natural world than the sky scrapers and technology of a modern city. I can honestly say part of me felt more at home here among the rubble and moss and chirping of birds than in Edmonton.
Today we rented a couple horses and rode out into the area around Sacsayhuaman. Much to my delight, we visited the Incan Face - you all know how much I nerd over rocks.. especially when they look like people. 🤓
