I find this quote a little unsettling probably because I believe it to be true. You can’t avoid the fact that in life your words or indeed your silence will often have consequences to some degree or another.
Of course, when the great French philosopher wrote these words he most definitely did not have Instagram engagement and algorithms in mind. But strangely, the same rule applies even if the context is very different.
If you comment a lot on someone’s photos or are tagged in photos with them, this signals to Instagram that they probably fall into your “friends and family” category. So if you feel like you never see a certain someone’s photos in your feed then start commenting on them. •
Conversely if you’re seeing too much of someone’s photos even though you’re only occasionally liking them, then stop liking and stop commenting completely and Instagram will eventually get the message.... and probably so will the person whose photos you don’t want to see as much of. Ouch! 🤕
